“There is one God and One Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”- 1 Timothy 2:5.
The Catholics believe that Mary is a co-redemtrix with Jesus Christ despite the clear text of Scripture to the contrary found above. ONE MEDIATOR, Catholics, not two. But, they believe that Mary was not tainted with original sin and that was first stated in 1439 by the Council of Basil. In 1709 Pope Clemont XI made the feast of Immaculate Conception a holy day of obligation. Pope Pius the IX issue a papal bull in 1854 making this an official dogma of the church, yet there is no support in Scripture for any of this…bull.
Mary is seen as the spiritual mother and heavenly intercessor oe every Catholic and as a partner with Jesus Christ in the redemption of human beings. In 1950, Pope Pius the XII proclaimed this doctrine that at her death Mary was bodily assumed into heaven. Even in the Passion of the Christ, a movie released in 2004 by actor Mel Gibson, Mary played a prominent role in that film, much more so than in any gospel account. Many Catholics not only pray to the virgin Mary but to the more than numerous saints that dot the Roman Catholic prayer cycle.
We’re sure that you’ve all heard the familiar chant, “Mary, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb”? In the biblical account, the following is said about Mary in Luke 2:42. “Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb”. Then MARY said, “Henceforth all generations will call me blessed”- Luke 2:48.
Earlier in that same chapter, the angel Gabriel had said, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women”. The culmination of this is that three people spoke these words- Gabriel, Elizabeth, and Mary. But, there came an “add-on” to the Hail Mary by the end of the 14th century. “Holy Mary,Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death”. This is now used in Catholic churches as a confessional prayer as they have taken the biblical account of Jesus several steps further and the added steps are unbiblical.
Even the late Pope John Paul II was so enamored with Mary worship that he had her sign on his casket. He once admitted that he had paid more attention to Mary during his lifetime than he had to Jesus Christ. Are you also aware of the Catholic/Islam tie in, as Mary is the only women to be mentioned in the Koran?
